Unique Landmark of Palembang

What is the first come into mind when I say: Palembang? Pempek, Jembatan Ampera, Benteng Kuto Besak? Maybe pempek is the most answer. What is your favorite pempek? Candy, Vico, or Beringin? Every people have their own opinion. But, if we ask about the most iconic landmark in Palembang, most people will answer: Jembatan Ampera.

Jembatan Ampera is located in the center of Palembang, with Musi river under it. Musi is the longest river in Sumatra. In the beginning of its operation, the mid part of the bridge can be lifted to give clearance for the ship.

Other landmark of Palembang is the Great Masjid of Palembang. It stands not far from Jembatan Ampera. The style of this masjid maybe came from China (the roof is similar to chinese temple), but there is also the taste of Europe (with this tall and big wall).

In front of the masjid, we can see the fountain which specially built when Palembang and Jakarta become the host of SEA Games in 2011. The fountain shows participating country of SEA Games by its flag.

Not far from the fountain, there is other landmark. It is called MONPERA, it stands for MONumen PErjuangan RAkyat. MONPERA is the museum. The collection is from picture, old weapon, ancient money, old clothing, and etc.

I believe Palembang has a lot more unique landmark to offer, but I only have few hour free after my duty. Maybe next time I will go to Palembang for long assignment, maybe.

Ciao,
Rifandi
